Jets' Darrelle Revis on Deflategate: Patriots 'have a history of doing stuff'

Revis also said Tom Brady's status as the face of the league shouldn't make him immune from punishment.

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis made his first extended comments about the Deflategate scandal since the league issued its punishments, saying that the Patriots "have a history of doing stuff," ManishMehta of the New York Daily Newsreports. 

Revis also said that the NFL-issued punishments for the Deflategate scandal are being blown up because Tom Brady was penalized​. 

Revis played with the Patriots last season, helping the team win Super Bowl XLIX. This off-season, he signed with the New York Jets, returning to his former club after playing for the team from 2007-12. 

"Everybody's blowing it up because it is Tom Brady," Revis said, according to the Daily News. "I understand that. But if (the NFL) feels he did the crime or he did something and they want to penalize them, then that's that. (The Patriots) have a history of doing stuff. You can't hide that.… Tom was there when they did that stuff in the past."

The NFL suspended Brady four games for his role in the scandal, in which the Patriots were accused of deflating footballs before the 2015 AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. Ted Wells' investigative report on Deflategate found that it was probable that Brady "was at least generally aware of... the release of air from Patriots game balls."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that Brady's refusal to fully cooperate with the investigation also factored into his suspension.

Revis added that the Patriots' history of misbehavior should be taken into account. 

"New England's been doing stuff in the past and getting in trouble," Revis said, according to the Daily News. "When stuff repeatedly happens, then that's it. I don't know what else to tell you. Stuff repeatedly happened through the years. You got SpyGate, you got this and that and everything else. Obviously in those situations in the past, they had the evidence. So they did what they needed to do."

Revis also said that Brady shouldn't be immune from punishment just because he's the face of the league. 

Revis was named first-team All-Pro last year, his only season with the Patriots. He finished the year with two interceptions and 16 passes defended. 

The six-time Pro Bowler signed a five-year, $70 million deal with the Jets this off-season.
