New Orleans Saints defensive end Akiem Hicks left Wednesday's practice with a knee injury, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

Hicks, 25, walked off the field with the assistance of team trainers. He returned to practice last Tuesday on a limited basis after undisclosed injury.

Last season, Hicks started 14 games for the Saints and recorded 27 tackles, 15 assists and two sacks.

Hicks is entering his fourth NFL season after being drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft.

The Saints lost their preseason opener to the Baltimore Ravens 30-27 on Aug. 13. They will host the New England Patriots for their second preseason game on Aug. 22.
