Colts defensive lineman to have surgery on injured ankle

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Art Jones will have surgery on his injured left ankle, coach Chuck Pagano said Thursday night.

Pagano provided the update following Indy's 9-6 loss to Cincinnati in their traditional preseason finale.

Jones was expected to be a major component in improving Indy's inconsistent run defense.

The Colts may now need to find help with a trade or on the waiver wire.

Jones missed seven games last season with a right ankle injury. After the season, he acknowledged that he struggled to push off the leg - even when he did play.

Indy signed the 6-foot-3, 320-pound Jones to a five-year, $33 million deal in 2014.
