New York Giants add 2 players to their defense

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) The New York Giants have added two players to their defense.

The team claimed cornerback Asa Jackson and defensive lineman Louis Nix off waivers on Sunday. To make room on their roster, they cut defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis and cornerback Mike Harris.

Nix was cut Saturday by the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the third round last year. But he was inactive for the first three weeks and was then placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Jackson was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2012 draft. He has played in 14 regular-season games with six starts, recording 29 tackles and three passes defensed.

Ellis, a former New York Jet, had signed with the Giants as a free agent in March. Harris came over from the Detroit Lions' practice squad on Oct. 29.

The Giants also began filling out their practice squad by signing six players who had been with the team in training camp before being waived on Saturday.

The group includes offensive linemen Adam Gettis and Emmett Cleary; wide receiver Julian Talley; defensive end Brad Bars; linebacker Cole Farrand and defensive back C.J. Conway.
