Panthers' Rivera names Brown, Ginn starting WRs vs. Jaguars

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera has named Corey ''Philly'' Brown and Ted Ginn Jr. the team's starting wide receivers for Sunday's season opener against Jacksonville.

Both positions had been up for grabs since Kelvin Benjamin tore his ACL in training camp.

Brown dropped five passes including two would-be touchdowns from Cam Newton during the preseason. Rivera said Monday that prompted him to go back to calling Brown by his nickname ''Philly'' instead of his formal name Corey.

Rivera joked that ''Philly catches the ball. Corey's a nice, young man.''

The coach said rookie Devin Funchess is pushing for playing time and veteran Jerricho Cotchery will see action too.

Ginn, a seven-year NFL veteran, has started only five games in the past five seasons. Brown started two games in 2014 as a rookie.
