Former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball has cleared waivers and is now a free agent, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rappoport.

Ball, who opened 2014 as the Broncos’ starting tailback, was released by the team on Sunday after two seasons. He slipped to fourth on the team’s depth chart this preseason behind C.J. Anderson, Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson.

The 24-year-old played just 5 games last year due to a groin injury. He’s averaged 4.2 yards per carry in 21 career games.

Denver selected Ball in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft after totaling 3,753 in his final two seasons at Wisconsin.
