BEREA, Ohio (AP) Josh McCown still plays like that little kid who first snapped on a helmet and decided to play quarterback nearly 30 years ago.

The 36-year-old, who Sunday will become the 23rd quarterback to start for Cleveland since 1999, approaches the game with the same enthusiasm he's had since breaking into the NFL with Arizona in 2002.

With his career winding down, McCown is savoring every snap, every practice. He has brought stability to the Browns, who signed him in February to bring stability to a troublesome position and mentor second-year QB Johnny Manziel.

Browns coach Mike Pettine said McCown's energy is contagious, and his experience has been invaluable.

McCown says there was a point in his career when his job became ''drudgery,'' which is why he's making the most of his opportunity in Cleveland.
