Broncos RB C.J. Anderson cleared to return after helmet-to-helmet hit
Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson left Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions after a helmet-to-helmet hit by Darryl Tapp to be tested for a concussion. He was cleared to return about 25 minutes later.
Anderson was injured on a run up the middle on the final play of the first quarter. He ducked his head just as Tapp lunged to tackle him and their heads collided. He remained on the field for a few moments but was able to walk off to the sideline under his own power.
Per the NFL’s concussion protocol, Anderson was taken to the locker room for evaluation. If he had tested positive for a concussion he would not have been allowed to return to the game. He was back on the field with one minute to play in the half.
Anderson had three carries for five yards before he left the game. Juwan Thompson and Ronnie Hillman lined up at halfback in his absence, with Hillman scoring the game’s first touchdown on a one-yard run.
