Crash involving Redskins, Minneapolis police costs city $237,254
A 2014 crash involving the Redskins’ team buses and a Minneapolis police squad car will cost the city $237,254 in damages.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribunereports a settlement will be discussed next week by the city's budget committee, with payment split between Minneapolis-based Lorenz Bus Service and Gotham Insurance company, both of whom filed claims for damages to the buses and for a loss of business while they were out of commission.
The crash took place prior to Washington's loss at TCF Bank Stadium on Nov. 2. Two off-duty officers were escorting the team to the game, when a squad car toward the front of the motorcade lost control on a grassy median, resulting in one bus rear-ending the other.
One Redskins player was forced to sit out the game with back spasms as a result. The Minneapolis police department suspended the practice of escorting sports teams after the fact.
