New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells underwent foot surgery this week and will likely be placed on injured reserve, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Fells has been out since sustaining the injury after the team’s Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He was wearing a walking boot in the days after the injury, and had been listed as questionable the last few weeks.

Fells re-signed with the Giants on a one-year contract in the off-season. He had 16 receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns last season, but is used mostly as a blocker.

Second-year player Jerome Cunningham is currently listed as Fells’s backup on the team’s depth chart. Cunningham has appeared in one game during his NFL career.
