The New York Jets will sign punter Steve Weatherford for Sunday’s game against the Patriots after an injury to Ryan Quigley, the team announced Saturday.

The New York Jets have signed punter Steve Weatherford for Sunday’s game against the Patriots after an injury to Ryan Quigley, the team announced Saturday.

Quigley is officially listed as questionable for the game with a shin injury.

Weatherford, 32, punted for the Jets from 2009–11 before joining the New York Giants in the 2011 offseason. He was released by the Giants in September after four seasons. Before playing in New York, he spent time with Jacksonville, New Orleans and Kansas City.

Weatherford averaged 46.3 yards per punt in his time with the Giants and helped them to a Super Bowl victory in 2011.

He averaged a net of 45 yards per punt on 16 attempts during the 2015 preseason.
