Sambrailo was injured Sept. 27 at Detroit and hasn't played since. He returned to practice last week but was deactivated against Green Bay on Sunday night.
Kubiak said doctors determined Sambrailo wasn't going to improve without surgery, which will occur sometime within the next week.
The Broncos selected Sambrailo in the second round out of Colorado State with plans to play him at right tackle. They moved him over to protect Peyton Manning's blind side after Ryan Clady tore up a knee at a practice in May.
