MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was knocked out of the game by a hit to the head in the fourth quarter against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday that caused a concussion.
After going to the locker room for examination, the Vikings ruled Bridgewater out for the rest of the game.
Bridgewater was scrambling for a first down and went into a slide on the play to protect himself. Cornerback Lamarcus Joyner launched himself and hit Bridgewater in the head with his left shoulder.
Joyner was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was livid on the sideline.
Bridgewater completed 13 of 21 passes for 144 yards with one interception. He also scored a rushing touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Shaun Hill replaced Bridgewater at quarterback.
''I haven't had a concussion before, so I don't know how serious it is,'' Zimmer said.
The Vikings also lost cornerback Terence Newman to a concussion. He didn't return, replaced by rookie Trae Waynes.
Then the Vikings lost middle linebacker Audie Cole for the rest of the season to a broken right ankle. Cole was filling in for Eric Kendricks, who missed the game with a rib injury.
