NFL: Broncos safety T.J. Ward won't be suspended
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) Denver safety T.J. Ward won't be suspended over his ejection from the Broncos' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ward was tossed for a blow to the head when receiver Jeremy Maclin took him out on Charcandrick West's 80-yard touchdown Sunday that put the Chiefs ahead 29-0 on their way to a 29-13 win.
Afterward, Ward said he was worried he'd be suspended like teammate Aqib Talib was for poking a player in the eye.
NFL spokesman Michael Signora, however, told The Associated Press any additional discipline of Ward would come ''as part of the standard review process.''
That means he could face a fine.
Last week, Ward was fined a total of $23,150 for a hit on Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton and for having his jersey untucked.
Coach Gary Kubiak has been harping on Denver's proclivity for personal fouls, a league-leading 19, so he sounded exasperated when asked Monday about Ward getting ejected.
''It was another frustrating penalty with two guys going at it at the end of a tough touchdown. We can't lose our captain on the football field. He knows that, but I don't expect it to go any further than that,'' Kubiak said.
Maclin took out Ward with a block after West had already crossed the goal line.
Ward said the Chiefs were taking cheap shots all game and that he lost his composure but insisted he didn't purposefully punch Maclin.
''I got emotional. I didn't really mean to punch. I don't think I punched him if you see it. It looks like a windup so you can take it as it is,'' Ward said after the game. ''It was an emotional game, hard fought for us defensively. A lot of things going on that you guys weren't able to see and I lost control.''
Ward called the Chiefs ''a pretty dirty team. O-linemen, receivers, tight ends. They were doing it last game and they continued to do it this game. It took an effect on me.''
