Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer left Monday’s game against the Bengals in the third quarter to be evaluated for a possible concussion.

Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer left Monday’s game against the Bengals in the third quarter to be evaluated for a possible concussion, the team announced. He was later ruled out for the rest of the game. 

Hoyer was replaced by T.J. Yates, who led Houston on a touchdown drive on his first series. Hoyer’s former backup Ryan Mallett was released by the team after he missed a charter flight for a road game. 

Hoyer completed 12 of 22 passes for 123 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception before he exited. He also had one carry for 15 yards.

The NFL’s concussion protocol requires a player to be cleared by a doctor before returning to the field.
