NEW YORK (AP) The New York Jets could be without two of their most significant players when they take on the AFC East-rival Miami Dolphins next weekend.
Cornerback Darrelle Revis is dealing with a concussion, while center Nick Mangold needed six or seven stitches, according to coach Todd Bowles, to close a deep cut on his right hand Sunday. The injuries leave the statuses of Revis and Mangold uncertain.
Revis was injured in the third quarter of the Jets' 24-17 loss Sunday and is going through the NFL's concussion protocol.
''He wasn't feeling any better today,'' Bowles said of his team's defensive leader.
Revis needs to be cleared before he can practice as the Jets prepare for Miami. Bowles gave no indications whether Revis might be ready in time to play.
''Any time somebody gets a concussion, you're kind of pessimistic about them for the next week,'' the coach said. ''Some people recover faster than others, so I'm just going to have to wait and see.''
Mangold hurt the hand he uses to snap the football in the second quarter, but it was unclear how the injury occurred. He remained on the sideline the rest of the game with his hand heavily wrapped while Wesley Johnson replaced him. Bowles said an MRI taken Monday was negative.
''We have to see what the pain level looks like this week as far as him being able to snap a ball,'' Bowles said.
Defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson sat out against Houston with a hamstring injury, but Bowles is ''hopeful'' he'll be back to play against the Dolphins.
