A petition posted on Change.org calling for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy to be banned from the NFL has garnered more than 72,000 signatures.

The petition features an image of Nicole Holder, Hardy’s ex-girlfriend who he was found guilty of assaulting in 2014. The accompanying letter addresses NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, requesting that Jones release Hardy and Goodell ban him from the league.

“When the graphic photos and accounts about Hardy’s terrible actions recently came out, I was appalled and upset. It is completely unacceptable to hit a woman and lead her to believe that she may lose her life,” the letter reads “Yet the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL don’t appear to share that view. Hardy is playing in the NFL today with little consequence for his actions. That must change: The Cowboys should immediately release him, and the NFL should make sure that he never plays another game in the league again.”

Jones reportedly met with Hardy to discuss his behavior last month after he missed or was late to several team meetings, though he has publicly supported the 2013 Pro Bowler.

Hardy signed a one-year, $11 million contract with the Cowboys in March.
