Earlier this season, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady expressed support for his friend and presidential candidate Donald Trump. But Brady said during his weekly interview on WEEI that he'd rather not be a part of the political conversation.

“Can I just stay out of this debate?” Brady said Tuesday. “Donald is a good friend of mine. I've known him for a long time. I support all my friends, that’s what I have to say. He’s a good friend of mine, he’s always been so supportive of me.”

Brady went on to say that ever since he judged the Miss USA beauty pageant in 2002, he and Trump have been friends.

“He’s always invited me to play golf. I’ve always enjoyed his company, and I support all of my friends in everything they do.”

Brady owns one of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats, which was seen in the Patriots’ locker room earlier this season. Brady says he was given the hat as a gift from Trump.

The quarterback added that he feels Trump has had a “remarkable” career, having gone from a business man, to a television personalty, to political figure.

Although he did not directly disclose whether Trump would have his vote, Brady did say that he hopes Trump has a chance at being the next president. “That would be great. There’d be a putting green on the White House lawn. I know that,” he said.

However, Brady did add that, despite his comments, he is not endorsing Trump for president.
