Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel was benched in favor of Kellen Moore during the first half of Saturday night’s game against the Jets.
After the Cowboys fell behind 6–3 early on, with Cassel just 4–9 for 36 yards and one frustrating interception, he was replaced by Moore in the second quarter.
The quarterback position has been a revolving door for the Cowboys all season, with starer Tony Romo twice injured and appearing in just four games. Cassel, 33, took over for Brandon Weeden on Oct. 25 and had thrown for five touchdowns, six interceptions, and 1,239 yards through the air while completing 59.2 percent of his passes entering the night. The Cowboys are 4–9 entering the night and all but out of the NFC East race.
Moore, 26, is making his first career appearance after spending the past three seasons as a reserve with the Detroit Lions. He proceeded to throw an interception to Marcus Gilchrist on his second career pass.
