Raiders DB Charles Woodson will retire after this season

Raiders safety Charles Woodson will retire at the end of this season, he announced Monday.
Woodson, 39, has played 18 seasons in the NFL—11 with Oakland and seven with the Packers. He was taken by the Raiders with the fourth pick of the 1998 draft after winning the Heisman Trophy at Michigan.
He played eight seasons with the Raiders before signing a seven-year contract with the Packers and returned to Oakland in 2013.
Woodson has not missed a game since the start of the 2013 season; he played through a dislocated shoulder earlier this season.
Woodson’s peers congratulated him for his accomplishments on Twitter.

What an honor it was to be his teammate for a few years. And to wear his #2 Michigan jersey to school in sixth grade https://t.co/v6r673fzg1

Woodson is tied for the fifth-most interceptions in NFL history and is tied for the all-time lead in defensive touchdowns. He has five interceptions this season, including two off of Peyton Manning in October.
The Raiders have two games left this season—Thursday at home against the Chargers and Jan. 3 in Kansas City against the Chiefs.
