Longtime New Orleans Saints public address announcer Jerry Romig died Wednesday at the age of 86.

“Jerry Romig was part of our team, part of our family,” Saints owner Tom Benson said in a statement Wednesday. “One of my favorite days was putting a Super Bowl ring on his finger.”

Romig held his position with the Saints for 44 years before his retirement in 2013.

A member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, Romig was also named one of the Institute for Human Understanding’s 10 Outstanding Persons in 1988.

He is survived by his wife Janice, their five children, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
