Jason Garrett declines to say if he wants Cowboys to re-sign Greg Hardy

Thw Cowboys have publicly supported Greg Hardy in the past, but coach Jason Garrett was quiet about his opinion on re-signing the controversial defensive end.

Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett declined to comment on whether he wants the team to re-sign defensive end Greg Hardy, reports the Dallas Morning News.

“I thought Greg did some good things for us on the field,” Garrett told reporters on Monday. “Defended the run well at times. Impacted the quarterback at different times during the game.”

But when asked specifically if he wanted Hardy, who is a free agent, to return to the team, Garrett did not offer his opinion.

“Don’t want to get into any personnel decisions right now,” Garrett said.

Hardy signed with the Cowboys this off-season, but he started his Dallas tenure by serving a four-game suspension for a 2014 domestic violence incident. The suspension was originally 10 games before it was reduced by an arbitrator. 

After serving his suspension, Hardy continued to draw scrutiny for getting into a sideline altercation with a coach during a game and for reportedly missing multiple team meetings. The Dallas Morning News reports Garrett has met with Hardy at least four times during the season to discuss his behavior.

Garrett’s silence on Hardy stands in contrast with the public support the team has offered him this season, with owner Jerry Jones expressing the team’s desire to sign him to a long-term extension and continuing to stand by him after photos of the domestic violence incident were released.
