Bill Belichick put his first challenge to good use.

The Patriots coach threw the red flag on a Broncos’ forward pass in the first quarter, overturning the call to a lateral and fumble.

The challenge gave New England possession of the ball on Denver’s 22-yard line, and the Patriots would score two plays later.

Stephen Gostkowski missed the extra point, so the Patriots trailed 7–6 after the score.

Gostkowski’s miss was his first missed extra point since his rookie year. He had made 523 straight point-after attempts before Sunday.
