Ravens G John Urschel to attend MIT for math PhD during off-season

Baltimore Ravens guard John Urschel will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for his PhD in math during the off-season, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

The offensive lineman, who describes himself as a “professional mathlete,” earned his bachelor’s degree in math, graduating with a 4.0 GPA from Penn State. He then went on to complete his master’s degree in math while continuing to play football for the Nittany Lions. Urschel also co-authored a published article in the Journal of Computational Mathematics.

Urschel, 24, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 draft and saw action in three games during his rookie year. This season, he started in seven games for the Ravens.
