Warren Moon says he doesn’t understand Cam Newton critics
Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon told Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports that he does not understand the level of criticism Cam Newton has received this season.
“That’s the thing I don’t understand. How come they just can’t let it go?” Moon said. “If he hasn’t done anything [recently] that’s been against the law or anything that would cause negative publicity, isn’t out in the world doing something wrong except for just dancing after a touchdown, I mean what is the big deal? He’s worked toward maturity in the last five or six years he’s been in the league and has done positive things to erase a lot of that negative stuff from when he was 18, 19 years old. I just don’t know why people can’t let all of that stuff go.”
Moon went on to say that, with the way critics talk about Newton, one would think he has done something much more egregious than celebrating on the field.

Last week, Newton addressed the criticism, specifically regarding race and football.
“I'm an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to,” Newton said.
Newton will be just the sixth black quarterback to start in the Super Bowl when the Panthers take on the Broncos this Sunday. A victory for Carolina would make Newton the third black starting quarterback to ever win the championship game.
