On Tuesday, Former NFL safety Rodney Harrison offered up how he would try to defend Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton if he was still playing.
Speaking toNewsday, the current analyst for NBC Sports said that he would attempt to knock Newton out of the game.
“If I see Cam Newton running the ball and he’s a quarterback and I’m on defense, I’m trying to hurt him,” Harrison said. “I’m trying to knock him out of the game.”
Harrison was known a hard hitter during his 15-year career, but acknowledged that the game has changed since he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1994.
However, he still believes that the thought of taking out the threat of Newton will be in the back of the minds of Denver Broncos defenders.
“I guarantee you that as many compliments that Denver’s defense is giving Cam Newton,” Harrison said, “those guys are in the background saying: ‘If we can knock him out of the game, that’s the difference between us winning and losing the Super Bowl.’”
The Panther play the Broncos in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday.
