Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward think his team’s defense was not easily surprised against the Panthers.

Denver held Carolina to only 10 points during its Super Bowl 50 win, by far the Panthers’ lowest total of the playoffs. The Broncos also forced four turnovers, including three by regular season MVP Cam Newton.

Ward, who picked off Newton and recovered a fumble during the game, said Carolina’s offense didn’t do anything Denver didn’t expect.

“We read them like a book,” Ward said after the game.

He added that he thought the Broncos were in Newton’s head early in the game, and that the quarterback was sulking.

Denver’s defense was certainly the star of Super Bowl 50. Von Miller took home Super Bowl MVP, while Ward finished with seven tackles.

Newton completed only 18 of his 41 pass attempts, throwing for 265 yards with no touchdowns and a pick.
