Bengals res-sign WR/KR Brandon Tate

CINCINNATI (AP) The Bengals have re-signed receiver and kick returner Brandon Tate, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent next week.

The Bengals announced the deal Friday.

Tate has spent the last five seasons with Cincinnati. Last season, he became the franchise's career leader in punt returns (153) and punt return yards (1,411). He has averaged 9.2 yards per return.

Tate also has 33 receptions for 469 yards and three touchdowns as a Bengal, including a 55-yard TD against Kansas City last season.

He has averaged 24.3 yards on 145 kickoff returns for Cincinnati. His next kickoff return will tie him with Tremain Mack (1997-2000) for the all-time franchise lead in total returns.

Coach Marvin Lewis says in a statement, ''Brandon has made big plays to help us win games, and the consistency of his work ethic and his overall play is a big plus.''
