Terrance Harris named AP sports, news reporter in Orlando

ATLANTA (AP) Terrance Harris, a veteran sportswriter who has covered the NFL, NBA and college sports, including the Saints and Notre Dame, has been hired as a hybrid sports and news journalist for The Associated Press in Orlando, Florida.

The appointment was announced Tuesday by South Sports Editor Oscar Dixon and interim South Editor Ravi Nessman.

''Terrance is an experienced journalist with a track record of breaking news, producing multi-platform enterprise and has vast video experience after working for a digital-first news operation,'' Dixon said.

Harris, 46, has covered sports for more than two decades for newspapers, websites and radio stations across the country. As a writer for NOLA.com, he led the sports department's coverage of the league's punishment of the New Orleans Saints' bounty program. He also covered the Super Bowl and the first college football playoff national semifinal.

He previously worked as a reporter and national football columnist for The Houston Chronicle and as a writer for AOL's FanHouse sports site.

In his new position, Harris will cover a wide range of sports - including the Orlando Magic and the University of Central Florida - in addition to assisting in news coverage in the Orlando region.

Harris is a graduate of Ohio University.
