CLEVELAND (AP) The Browns have released veteran linebacker Karlos Dansby, their leading tackler last season.

Dansby's departure came just a few hours after Cleveland signed inside linebacker Demario Davis, the club's first notable addition in free agency.

The team wants to get younger and the 34-year-old Dansby was dumped as part of the Browns' rebuilding plan.

Dansby signed a four-year, $24 million contract with Cleveland as a free agent in 2014. He played well for the Browns, recording 93 tackles his first season despite missing four games and 108 in 2015. Dansby also returned two interceptions for touchdowns last season.

He is the only active NFL player with at least 40 career sacks and 15 interceptions.

Dansby, who has also played for Arizona and Miami, is expected to latch on with another team.
