Panthers owner Richardson has successful shoulder surgery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Panthers announced that owner Jerry Richardson had successful surgery on his shoulder.

The team released a statement Wednesday saying ''Mr. Richardson had surgery on his shoulder today. ... Everything went very well.''

Dr. Pat Connor performed the surgery in Charlotte.

Richardson, 79, did not attend the NFL owners' meetings this week in Boca Raton, Florida, because of the surgery.
