Browns sign wide receiver Saalim Hakim

CLEVELAND (AP) The Browns signed wide receiver Saalim Hakim after he had an impressive tryout last week in their voluntary minicamp.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Hakim made several nice catches during a practice on Thursday, when he outjumped a defensive back to haul in a long pass from quarterback Austin Davis and earned immediate praise from new Browns coach Hue Jackson.

Cleveland desperately needs receivers and the Browns are expected to address the position in this week's NFL draft. The team currently has 12 picks.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Hakim signed as an undrafted free agent with Dallas in 2012. He has played in 21 career games with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.

He's also returned kicks, averaging 21.5 yards on 13 tries.

The 26-year-old's brother, Az-Zahir, appeared in 110 games with St. Louis, Detroit and New Orleans from 1998-2006.
