Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison will play in 2016, the team confirmed Monday.

Harrison, 38, has played in 172 games over 13 NFL seasons, 12 of which were with the Steelers. Last season he tallied 40 tackles and five sacks in 15 games while mostly playing in a backup role.

Despite not officially making his decision until after the draft, Harrison had been training and the Steelers anticipated his return.

The Steelers defense gave up 19.9 points per game last season, good for 11th best in the league.
