The New York Jets have placed defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson on the team’s physically-unable-to-perform list. The Jets opened training camp on Thursday.

Wilkerson, 26, is currently recovering from leg surgery after breaking his leg in January. The PUP list placement is a precautionary move by the Jets.

Wilkerson and the Jets are coming off a recent contract dispute that ended in a multi-year contract agreement, which is reportedly worth $17 million per season over five years.

Wilkerson was selected by the Jets in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. In his five seasons with the Jets, Wilkerson has compiled 36.5 sacks, including 12 last season.

Wilkerson expects to be ready for the team’s season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 11 at MetLife Stadium.

Wilkerson joins five others on the Jets’ PUP list—James Carpenter, Breno Giacomini, Kendall James, Devin Smith and Khiry Robinson.
