Oakland Raiders file to trademark 'Las Vegas Raiders'
The Oakland Raiders filed for three trademarks for the phrase "Las Vegas Raiders," according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The trademark applications dated Aug. 20, 2016 are for goods and services, which includes "education and entertainment services in the nature of professional football games and exhibitions," as well as clothing and other miscellaneous items such as bracelets, necklaces, rings, collectible coins, play figures, board games, balloons and plush toys.
Six other applications have been submitted for the trademark, which were filed in late January and not by the Raiders.
In recent years, the Raiders have been exploring relocation to several cities, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Antonio. Raiders owner Mark Davis has pledged to give $500 million towards building a new stadium in Las Vegas. The Raiders have played at the 56,000 seat Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum since moving back to Oakland in 1995.
Thursday, the Raiders released renderings for a potential new stadium in Las Vegas, one that would cost $1.9 billion.
The Raiders are currently on a one-year lease in Oakland and will pay $3.5 million on the deal for use of the Coliseum and a training facility in Alameda County this season.
