Report: Broncos cut QB Mark Sanchez
The Denver Broncos have released quarterback Mark Sanchez, days after naming Trevor Siemian the team's starter under center, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Schefter reports Sanchez will sign with the Dallas Cowboys.
Sanchez's salary for the upcoming season included $1 million guaranteed from his $4.5 million base. Denver was looking to move Sanchez because if he made the 53-man roster, the team would have surrendered its seventh-round draft pick the Philadelphia Eagles.
Sanchez has played six seasons in the NFL after starting at quarterback for four seasons with the New York Jets and spending the last two as a backup in Philadelphia. Last season, Sanchez passed for 616 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. He will add QB depth in Dallas after Tony Romo’s latest injury has left rookie Dak Prescott atop the depth chart.
The Broncos plan to use rookie Paxton Lynch as their backup under center. Lynch played in the second-half of last week's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.
