Despite his age, the 37-year-old Brees is coming off one of the best years of his career, even as his arm strength is dwindling. The Saints made bare efforts to complement their aging star; the defense has only slightly improved from its leaky 2015 state. It will be up to Brees to keep New Orleans afloat in a season inevitably defined by clashes of gushing offenses. Saints fans better savor it. He’s set to be a free agent after this season, and that’s yet another thing management might not pay up for.
