The commissioner’s 10-year anniversary on the job passed with remarkably little fanfare. While Roger Goodell has the backing of ownership and business is booming, his public disapproval rating has triggered concern at 345 Park Avenue. The league office has started making moves to restore trust in its leader—parting ways with controversial medical advisor Elliot Pellman, for example, and creating a “Chairmen’s Committee” of prominent owners to advise Goodell—and expect more to come. But after 2014 brought the Ray Rice mishandling, and 2015 brought Deflategate, can Goodell get through a season without making the target on his back even bigger?
