Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has right thumb sprain
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has a sprained right thumb, head coach John Fox told reporters Tuesday.
The Chicago Sun-Timesreported Cutler originally sustained ligament damage to his right thumb during the Bears' season opener against the Texans last week, and re-aggravated the injury in Week 2 against the Eagles.
Cutler left Monday's game at the end of the third quarter and appeared to hurt his hand while fumbling earlier in the quarter when he fell to the ground and used his hand to brace for impact.
He had his hand examined, but remained in for a pair of possessions. After throwing an interception, he was removed from the game and replaced by Brian Hoyer.
"I'm concerned," Cutler said. "You know, as a quarterback, you kind of need your right thumb. I think I was 12 or 11 when I had surgery on this thumb, so we'll see what it is."
Before leaving, Cutler was 12 of 17 for 157 yards with an interception. The Bears trailed 22–7 at the time he was injured and went on to lose 29–14.
