The Redskins (0-5) became the first team to fire a coach this season, giving Jay Gruden his walking papers Monday. Washington has been outscored 151-73 in its five defeats after last Sunday’s 33–7 loss to New England. The Redskins led the Super Bowl champs for nearly 14 minutes of game time after Steven Sims raced 65 yards for a touchdown on a reverse.

Bill Callahan has been named Washington's interim head coach, the first team he has been in charge of since a four-year run at Nebraska from 2004-07. He also was head coach of the Raiders from 2002-03, going 15–17 in those two seasons. Case Keenum has been named the starting quarterback over Colt McCoy and rookie Dwayne Haskins.

Miami (0–4) is coming off its bye week with one of arguably three legitimate chances to win a game given it also has two matchups with the winless Jets. The Dolphins have lost all four of their games by at least 20 points after their 30–10 defeat to the Chargers on Sept. 29.

Miami appears to have moved on from its potential quarterback controversy, with Josh Rosen starting in the loss to the Chargers after coming off the bench in each of the first three games. The 2018 No. 1 overall pick completed 43 of 84 passes for 482 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.

The Dolphins are averaging just 225 yards, including a paltry 51.8 per game on the ground. Defensively, they have yielded more than twice that amount overall at 472 yards per game and rank last in the league in points allowed (163) despite playing one less game than all but three other teams.
