Bears Pass Connection Building Momentum

Bears players and coaches have seen wide receiver DJ Moore start to build a connection with quarterback Justin Fields just as he did with Carolina QBs.

Bears offensive players have testified repeatedly to the connection building between Justin Fields and receiver DJ Moore.

It carries more impact when it's coming from someone who gets to cover Moore and prevent Fields from throwing. There's a difference in Fields now for several reasons but primary one is the go-to guy, Moore.

"I'd say it is a big difference because he has his receiver out there that he wants and that he knows he can trust and throw it to," Brisker said. "I won't say anything bad from last year (about players), but just compared to last year, he just looks different. It's a different energy.

"And you know that feeling when you're out there looking and you see 1 (Fields) and 2 (Moore) going out there and he's throwing that ball to 2 and he's getting it, he's catching it. It's timing routes and it's on time. So it's a different chemistry right now. And it's just OTAs. They just started, so the sky's the limit for them for sure for Justin, for DJ and for that offense."

Brisker wore an expression like someone who knows something you don't know.

"Sky is the limit," he said. "You're going to see."

Moore caught one good deeper ball over the middle in 7-on-7 on Wednesday and coaches have said it happens with more and more regularity.

"They quickly got a really good rapport with one another," receivers coach Tyke Tolbert said. "They talk all the time with each other off the field and on the field.

"Every time Justin's in there, for the most part, DJ's in there taking reps. Obviously the more reps with one another the better you'll get. They’ve gotten better and better throughout camp. Really pleased where they are this spring."

This isn't going to happen overnight, although Moore had a habit in Carolina of being able to build a rapid connection with whoever the Panthers threw onto the field: Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Bears backup PJ Walker, Teddy Bridgewater, Cam Newton, Will Grier, Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke in five years.

"Obviously, the more time you spend around somebody, the better you're gonna grow and you're gonna know," Bears quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko said. "I mean, Brady and Gronk didn't just happen. That grew.

"So I think there's always gonna be more growth, you're always gonna want more growth, but what we've seen so far has been really good. So we try to put them in situations where they'll be at, where we think they'll be at come August, September, October and let them grow in those situations. And they grow on the field and off the field."
