Tyson Bagent's first start became official Friday when the Bears listed Justin Fields as out due to his right thumb injury.

"The mobility’s getting better, the swelling went down, the grip strength is better," coach Matt Eberflus said.  "It’s trending in the right direction. He’ll be week to week and we’ll know more Monday. That’s where it is right now with Justin."

The injury does not require surgery. Nor will Fields go on injured reserve, at least for now.

Before he Fields can return, Eberflus is looking for particular improvement.

"More mobility, more swelling going down. And then see him … the grip strength is really where it is, the functionality of it," Eberflus said. "If we see more of that—and it’s obviously trending in the right direction, that’s what it’s done this week. That’s where it’s looking good."

The Bears did get a mix of positive and negative news heading into the weekend off of Friday's injury report.

The bad news was safety Jaquan Brisker is now questionable with a groin injury after a Friday when he was limited in practice. With Eddie Jackson listed among the players out for this week, Brisker's absence might mean a start for safety Quindell Johnson alongside Elijah Hicks, as the Bears work through their depth at the position. Jackson has a foot injury.

The positive news was Darnell Wright's return for a full practice on Friday. He is questionable going into the game. The team held him out of Thursday's practice with a shoulder injury after he had been limited on Wednesday.

"He moved around well," Eberflus said. "We’ll assess that as the weekend goes here but it looked like he was in a good spot."

If Wright isn't able to play, they might be looking at Aviante Collins at right tackle or moving another player, possibly Teven Jenkins. But Wright's return for a full practice at least presents hope he'll play. That would leave Jenkins available to play either his regular left guard spot or right guard.

Also among the players out for the game are running back Roschon Johnson with a concussion, guard Nate Davis with an ankle sprain and cornerback Terell Smith with an illness.

Joining Brisker and Wright as questionable is guard/center Dan Feeney, who was out of practice entirely on Thursday with a knee injury but moved up to limited work on Friday.

Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and center Doug Kramer were removed from the injury report entirely.
