Opposition for Bears on Two OC Fronts

Bears attempts to find an offensive coodinator are running into some obstacles in the form of teams competing for the same candidates.

The Bears are not going through the interview process unimpeded.

There is always opposition interference in more than one form when looking for coaches and the Bears have reportedly met with it.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, names to watch for the vacant Raiders offensive coordinator job are Shane Waldron and Kliff Kingsbury. The Bears interviewed both, so they're being considered for more than the Bears OC spot. Any competition for coordinators obviously makes it difficult.

The Raiders officially made Antonio Pierce their head coach. Before they had a head coach, the Bears didn't need to worry about competition for their OC candidates.

Another name Breer gave as a person of interest for that position is former Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.

Would the Raiders trade for Justin Fields and keep him in the Luke Getsy offensive system?

Interesting.

The other type of interference teams meet with is other teams blocking them from talking to coaches. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Chargers denied the request by the Bears to talk with L.A. offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

The reported block may have had something to do with the head coaching job. The Chargers last week were reported to have interviewed Moore for their own vacant head coaching position. They may still be considering Moore a candidate for head coach. He also is expected to be of interest for other head coaching jobs.

Otherwise, blocking him doesn't make a lot of sense, unless they're going to force the new head coach to take some of the assistant coaches from the old Chargers staff.

Moore was Cowboys offensive coordinator before going to the Chargers.

He was coordinator with the Chargers for one season and they were 18th on offense, 13th in passing and 25th in rushing. Moore's offenses with Dalals from 2019-22 finished first in 2019 and 2021, 11th in 2022 and 14th in 2020. They were second in passing in 2019 and 2021, eighth in 2020 and 14th in 2022.
