The Bears continue to profess faith in their long-time long snapper.
Although he's 36 years old now, the Bears had no hesitation signing their long snapper Patrick Scales to a new contract Friday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. According to Overthecap.com, Scales' deal was for one year at $1.378 millions with $1.153 million guaranteed. Last year Scales counted $1.37 million total against the Bears salary cap.
Scales has been with the Bears nine seasons, including 2017 when he didn't play due to a knee injury. He's going into his 11th season overall, and joined the team in 2015 after playing two games in 2014 for the Baltimore Ravens.
Scales has been in 120 Bears games. The Bears have tended to hang onto long snappers who work out well. Patrick Mannelly retired in 2013 and played in 245 games over 16 seasons, starting in 1998.
Scales was undrafted out of Utah State and has made 14 tackles in his career.
