The Bears had an important top-30 visit at a position of need Wednesday as they continued sorting through top draft prospects.

Texas A&M edge rusher Tyree Wilson was at Halas Hall, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The fact this is a position of great need alone makes the visit important for the Bears but there's more to it.

Like any other team, they could need clarity on Wilson's health and a visit like this helps do it.

Wilson, who is 6-foot-6 1/8, 271 pounds, suffered a fractured foot in November and as a result missed the NFL Scouting Combine. He still was unable to do pro day workouts in late March and his doctor issued a letter on his behalf ahead of time to teams saying he would not work out.

At the time, Rapoport reported Wilson was undergoing a procedure to remove a screw from his foot and he was going to need to avoid sweating for 15 to 20 days in order to prevent infection while the incision healed. The broken foot had been surgically repaired.

Wilson attended the combine even though he couldn't work out, and said he had just begun to run again. At the time, he confirmed the doctors put a screw in to help the foot heal.

"It was the doctor's choice and doctors make the best choices," he told media members at the combine. "It was choice to have surgery."

Wilson made seven sacks each of his last two seasons and 17 total, and had 32 tackles for loss at TCU. "I feel like I'm a different pass rusher," he said at the combine. "I'm not just committed to power. I feel like I can do power and speed and be effective inside and outside, really just being that dominant dude on the field."

Projections have been he could go some point early in Round 1, possibly even to the Bears. A visit with them can go a long ways toward relieving an concern over the foot should they decide he is the player they want to draft.
