Damar Hamlin 'End Game': Bills GM Brandon Beane Provides Update

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin continues to make significant strides in his recovery after suffering from cardiac arrest on Jan. 2.

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin continues to make positive strides in his recovery back to full health after suffering from cardiac arrest on Jan. 2.

It hasn't even been two months since Hamlin's on-field health scare shook the sports world. But on Tuesday while speaking at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Bills general manager Brandon Beane brought up the idea of Hamlin returning the field again.

Of course, there's still a long process ahead until the 24-year-old can reach that point, but it's uplifting news regardless.

“Damar is doing great. I’m glad we’re all able to smile about his situation,” Beane said. “ ... We want to make sure that we hear everything that’s — assuming he gets full clearance, I know he would want to play. I know that’s his end game, to continue playing."

The discussion of getting back to football is somewhat miraculous considering that Hamlin nearly could've died on an NFL field. And with a full offseason still ahead, Hamlin's progress could see a significant jump in the months ahead considering how far he's already come.

“He’s seen several specialists since our season has ended," Beane said. "That’s not done. I think he’s got two or three more that he’s got to see in various parts of the country."

However, Beane admitted that while Hamlin obviously has his own decision to make, the final say on whether he can return back to the field will be a group effort between him, the doctors and the team.

"It will be a decision for Damar, but it’ll also be a decision for us," Beane said. " ... We want to make sure that we’re all in sync with, assuming the doctors say at some point he’s seen them all, that we’re in agreement that we’re OK putting him out there, too."

Regardless of how long it takes, Hamlin continues to win at the game of life in what has been an eventful past two months for both him and the Bills organization.
