Bills' Damar Hamlin 'Full-Go' at Training Camp
The Buffalo Bills received wonderful news on Wednesday morning as safety Damar Hamlin will be a full participant in training camp, coach Sean McDermott announced.
"Damar Hamlin will be a full go at training camp and we’re behind him 100 percent," McDermott said, per the Bills' Twitter account. "We’ll go at his cadence."
Hamlin suffered one of the scariest injuries in NFL history when he went into cardiac arrest during the Bills' Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 2. He remained unconscious on the field for several minutes, receiving CPR from trainers before an ambulance could take him to the hospital. While at the hospital, Hamlin was sedated and put on a breathing tube to help save his life.
Afterwards, Hamlin showed remarkable improvement and made a miraculous recovery. He was released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center a week after being admitted, and after two more days of treatment at the Buffalo General Medical Center, he was discharged to rehabilitate at home. In April, Bills general manager Brandon Beane announced that Hamlin was fully cleared to return to football.
Hamlin experienced an outpouring of support in the aftermath of his tragedy. All 32 NFL teams showed their support for the Bills safety in Week 18, wearing "Pray For Damar" shirts in warmups. His charity, the Chasing M's Foundation, received a massive influx of donations, going from just a few thousand dollars to nearly $9 million in less than two weeks. This summer, Hamlin is putting those funds to good use to spread CPR awareness across the country.
Hamlin's return to the field is nothing short of miraculous, and everyone in the Bills organization and NFL in general is happy to see him back.
