Bills WATCH: Josh Allen in Midseason Form Ahead of Steelers Game

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen made a highlight throw during the scrimmage portion of Thursday's practice.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is set to play for at least a quarter in Saturday's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, according to coach Sean McDermott.

But if the clips from training camp practice are any indication, Allen's participation in the preseason might just be a competitive formality.

During Thursday's practice, Allen made a highlight play during the scrimmage portion of the session. He flung a pass across his body down the field where it landed perfectly in the arms of receiver Deonte Harty, who walked in for a touchdown.

Take a look:

Of course, one big play during practice before the regular season has even started doesn't necessarily mean much. And after all, Allen isn't facing the all-out pass rush during practice that he'll be tasked with avoiding during real games.

But there's few quarterbacks in the league who can execute that kind of risk-reward throw, whether it be in practice or a regular-season game.

Still, whether or not McDermott is impressed by Allen's practice highlight, the decision to play him in Saturday's preseason action will serve as a chance for the star quarterback to get some quality reps ahead of Week 1.

"It's to get them ready for the season," McDermott said. "We took a little bit of a different approach last year. This year, we're going back to what we've somewhat done in the years past ... Just trying to do right by the players and getting them ready to go for Week 1."

The Bills and Steelers will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET.
