How Bills QB Josh Allen Helped 'Excited' Joe Brady Secure Promotion

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said that Josh Allen's undeniable chemistry with Joe Brady made the latter's promotion inevitable.

Brandon Beane has declared it was far more than just a hunch that officially made the Buffalo Bills' offense Joe Brady's bunch.

The Bills' general manager spoke about the in-season promotion of Brady to offensive coordinator during his appearance at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, declaring that his immediate chemistry with the Western New York franchise quarterback made retainment on a full-time basis a no-brainer.

“It wasn’t like they had to get to know each other and it’s so important for that play-caller to have the feel of what fits this quarterback, what fits this offense,” Beane said, per Myles Simmons of NBC Sports. “So it didn’t take them long to get on the same page and I thought they really did a nice job and it’ll be fun to watch."

Brady, best known for overseeing Joe Burrow's Heisman Trophy-winning season at Louisiana State University, has been with the Bills since 2022, originally serving as the team's quarterbacks coach. He was called upon to succeed the ousted Ken Dorsey as the team's offensive boss in mid-November.

At the time of his promotion, Buffalo was 5-5 and in danger of missing out on the AFC playoffs. Upon Brady's ascension, they won six of their final seven regular season games and secured another AFC East division title. Buffalo scored at least 20 points in each of the final seven en route to their fifth consecutive showing on the playoff bracket.

Even though Allen's standard statistics took a bit of a dip under Brady's watch, Beane was enthused by the mental rapport that continued to develop the latter's new role. In an update that should certainly inspire fear in opposing defenses, the two are already back in the gridiron lab with the offseason fully underway.

“I know Josh and Joe had conversations after the season about where we want to take the offense, things that we want to keep, and things that we want to tweak," Beane said. "So those are being worked on now. I know Joe will check in with Josh here and there, but always looking forward to seeing how our offense will evolve and I know Joe’s excited about it as well.”

Brady and the Bills certainly hope that his second time in charge of NFL offense goes better than the first: Brady previously served in the same role with the Carolina Panthers on the staff of Matt Rhule and was relieved of duties in the midst of his second season in 2021 after failing to develop Sam Darnold into a consistent starter.
