Bills New RB Latavius Murray Only Wants a Super Bowl: 'Not About Anything Else!'

Newly-signed Buffalo Bills running back Latavius Murray experienced a bit of a career resurgence with the Denver Broncos this past season and is now ready to compete for a Super Bowl.

Latavius Murray could be near the end of his playing career for all he knows, and he's still without a Super Bowl ring. This made signing with the Buffalo Bills on Monday a simpler decision than most for the veteran running back.

“That’s the only reason I’m here honestly," Murray said. "It’s not about anything else other than that for me. Just being able to compete for a ring."

Murray experienced a bit of a career resurgence with the Denver Broncos this past season, as he rushed 160 times for 703 yards and five touchdowns while appearing in 12 games. Both the carry and rushing totals were his highest since 2017.

He proved he can still make an impact at age 33, which has now given him an opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl near his hometown of Syracuse with the Bills, the sixth team of his career.

“It’s been a team that’s contending for the past few years,” Murray said. “Having an opportunity to compete for a championship, first and foremost. And then growing up just a few hours from here. I think it’s really cool to be able to come back to the state of New York and be able to play football. Especially at this stage of my career.”

Murray has seemed to have a noticeable impact nearly every season since being a sixth-round pick by the then-Oakland Raiders in 2013. Along with his recent impressive stint with the Broncos, he has played in at least 13 games in every season but one since being drafted. Along the way, he's racked up 55 rushing touchdowns and the sixth-most rushing yards among active players (6,252).

The Bills backfield wasn't necessarily in need of Murray's abilities given the presence of second-year running back James Cook, former New England Patriot Damien Harris, and speedy veteran Nyheim Hines. But Murray's veteran experience and proven ground-and-pound skill could be one of many key pieces the Bills need to finally take advantage of their window and get over that championship hump.
